Hello! Welcome to Scribbles and Sketches. Here is where I celebrate the first love of my life, the written word. I am a Black girl from the Caribbean working in mental health, with a love for storytelling and art.
I have been telling stories since the age of 3. My mom was on bedrest for a complicated pregnancy, and we would hang out together and I would make up stories using the picture books she bought for me. I have been reading for almost just as long, and books have been the most consistent thing in my life. Without stories I wouldn’t be the person that I am today.
A few years back I added art into my life as a hobby. It has been super grounding and helps me to challenge my perfectionist tendencies by forcing me to focus on the creative process and not the outcome.
Like most millennials I know, I too am feeling lost in the sauce as we struggle through the season of Black Mirror none of us wanted to star in. This blog is my way of merging my analytical tendencies and my craving for structure with my harebrained and haphazard creative nature, so I can have a place to take a break from the dystopian nightmare every now and again.
If you’re into stories that explore human nature. If you’re into fantasy, magical realism, romance, and BIPOC/QTPOC stories, and art that celebrates these stories, then grab your coffee (my personal fav), your wine, or whatever you sip on, and stay awhile.
